Thailand Holidays – Attractions to See on Your Visit

Thailand HolidaysThe allure of a visit to Thailand is an intense one due to its varied enticing elements.

Thailand is unique with its mix of friendly smiling people, ancient culture and religious artifacts, lush landscapes, great beaches and modern metropolis. It is difficult to cull the list of fascinating destinations to see in Thailand to a mere handful but here is an attempt to offer some requirements during your visit.

Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and one of the world’s great cities. Bangkok is a modern city with world famous nightlife, world class restaurants and fabulous shopping. It also is the home to some of the most important Buddhist temples and relics in the world. These include Wat Phra Kaeo (Emerald Buddha Chapel), Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha), Wat Saket (Golden Mount), and Wat Benchannabophit (Marble Temple).

Chiang Mai is north of Bangkok and is in a green valley surrounded by mountains. It is well known for its Arts & Culture Center, many museums, beautiful Buddhist temples and two elephant sanctuaries. This is also a well known area to study Thailand’s delicious cuisine through numerous cooking schools.

Ko Tao is an island in the Gulf of Thailand in the southern part of the country. It is a world famous scuba and snorkel destination where you can swim with turtles, stingray, barracuda and even whale sharks. Paying For Your Thailand Holiday

Thailand HolidaysThere are primarily four ways to pay for your Thailand vacation.

1. Cash. You can bring cash to Thailand to fund your holiday but there are some rules you need to know. If you bring more than $10,000 you must declare it in the country you are departing and also in Thailand. You are also susceptible to having your cash stolen.
2. Credit Card. Using a credit is easy but there are some precautions. Credit card skimming (stealing your number and Personal Identification Number) is a possibility even in a five-star hotel. Only use a credit card at a place you totally trust or as a last resort. Ensure you check your statements closely after you return. It is also a good idea to notify your credit card company when you will be in Thailand or your card may be blocked.
3. Debit Card. This used to be the ideal financial tool for your vacation. Less likely to be stolen and easier to use. As long as you had money in your home account, you could use any of the thousands of ATM machines. Now, almost every Thai bank charges 150 baht (approximately $5.00) per transaction and your home bank may also charge a fee. ATM scams are on the rise in Thailand, so only use those ATM machines inside or right outside a Thai bank.
4. Travelers Checks. The biggest plus with travelers checks are you can get refunded if they are stolen. One of the negatives are you may have to pay a fee to get them and a fee to cash them. Another issue is that you will have to cash them during banking hours at a bank or get a ridiculously low exchange rate at your hotel. Read the rest of this entry »

Organic Food in Chiang Mai – Living Healthy While On Thailand Holiday

Thailand HolidaysHave you recently moved to Chiang Mai, are you planning to move there, or are you just planning a trip to this cultural capital of northern Thailand? Are you worried that you will have to pause your super-healthy diet or worse ruin it while on a holiday? Have no fear-the city has enough healthy food and organic supplies to go around, providing for all your diet-conscious grocery needs as well as breakfast, lunch, dinner… all the way down to coffee and ice cream (yes indeed, there is such a thing as organic ice cream as well as fat-free versions). Just walking around the city, or the city’s largest mall the Central Airport Plaza (also known as Robinson Airport Plaza) will spoil you for choice, and that’s just the start.

Suan Pak

This lovely restaurant boasts their very own hydroponic vegetable garden and takes great pride in feeding you those vegetables in innovative, tasty salad dishes that are a fusion of western and Thai salads. Located just next to the Central Airport Plaza. Don’t forget to ask for a tour of their gardens!

Royal Project Outlets

The Royal Project focuses on increasing the living standards of northern hill tribes. One of the ways they do this is by making agricultural produce from said tribes economically viable: Royal Project outlets throughout the country sell these products, which are very much organic and grown on the lofty heights of Doi Suthep, at affordable prices. They range from grocery (fresh vegetables, mushrooms, chili paste, jam, fruit juice) to bakery products including but not limited to excellent cereal arabica biscuits, potato bread, and-when you are lucky enough to catch them during a food fair or exhibition-amazing cake (passion fruit and orange highly recommended). In Chiang Mai, you can find a Royal Project shop at the airport, though there is also another near the University of Chiang Mai. Read the rest of this entry »
